Personal statement
Mature age and non-school leavers applying for an undergraduate place at UTS have the option of submitting personal statements to specific courses, to improve their chances of selection.
Read through the information on this page before preparing your personal statement.

It is strongly advised that you do not leave your personal statement submission until the last minute in case you encounter problems with your internet connection.
Preparing your personal statement
You must use the prescribed personal statement form below. In the UTS Preferences drop down list of the form you will see whether courses require individual personal statements or whether one statement will cover multiple preferences.
The personal statement must be written by you and reflect your personal views. It should contain statements which:
- reflect on your educational experience to this point and how it has prepared you for studying the course/s for which you are applying (results of formal study will be available for us to view via your UAC application);
- indicate your knowledge and interest in the area in which you plan to study (you may include here any relevant details of short courses you have undertaken);
- outline your expectations of the course/s for which you are applying;
- reflect on any work (paid or voluntary) you have undertaken - you may also wish to include details of your work history; and
- mention anything else about you that will help us assess your application.
There is a 1,200 word limit for personal statements.
Each course may use the personal statement in different ways. The course admission requirements describe the effect of personal statements on an application.
Submitting your Personal Statement
- Download the Spring 2012 Personal Statement Form (PDF 390kB)
- Complete the form (as an online PDF)
- Upload it to UAC using Check and Change (opens an external site).
- Include any additional documents with the personal statement submission.
Additional documentation
You may submit additional documentation to support your personal statement. For example this could be references supporting employment history, or certificates from short or private courses. You have a limit of five (5) A4 size attachments.
Additional documents need to be PDF files to attach to your personal statement.
You can convert your documents to PDFs using either:
- UAC’s document conversion service – attach the document file to an email addressed to conv2pdf@uac.edu.au. For each attached file you’ll receive an email back with a converted PDF file. Or
- one of the many document conversion packages available on the web.
Additional documentation:
- is not compulsory - only submit additional documentation if it conforms to the guidelines above;
Your additional documentation must not:
- contain copies of formal educational documents, for example High School, Associate Diploma, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor's or postgraduate course - UTS will have access to these results through your UAC application.
