TAFE or private college
If you don’t get accepted to UTS straight from school, or if you’re unsure about which degree you want to do, one option you have is to complete a diploma or advanced diploma course at TAFE or a private college.
UTS offers some subject exemptions, credit recognition, to students who apply with past accredited study, so you can use your diploma to help you gain admission.
In order to do this, you must have completed an Australian Qualification Framework TAFE (or equivalent) diploma. Only the Science faculty may accept students who only partially complete their studies at one of these institutions.
This entry pathway may take a little longer, but it does give you extra qualifications and the time to make sure you’ve chosen the right subjects and the right career path. The level of subject exemption normally depends on the subjects undertaken and the grade point average you receive while at TAFE or a private college.
Requirements vary for different courses. For details regarding if and how study at TAFE or a private college is considered in applications to a particular UTS course refer to the courses admission requirements.
There is also further information on applying for credit recognition.
