Getting into UTS

For current school leavers, the admission criteria for most UTS undergraduate courses will be based entirely on your Australian tertiary admission rank (ATAR) score.

A small number of UTS undergraduate courses have additional selection criteria for current school leavers.

Eligibility criteria

Current school leavers must meet the UTS eligibility criteria, by having completed a:

  • NSW Higher School Certificate or Australian equivalent, and achieved an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 69 or higher.

If you meet the UTS eligibility criteria you will be eligible to be considered for selection; however you still have to compete for an offer.

Indicative ATAR cut-offs

To help you plan, use the UTS:
ATAR cut-off finder.

Use this as a guide, but remember that these figures change from year to year.

Didn't get the ATAR you need?

If you want to go to UTS but didn't get the ATAR you needed to get into your chosen UTS course, don't worry - there are other options:

  • Apply to UTS as a current school leaver

See if you can use any of the entry pathways for current school leavers.

Many UTS courses give you options to study subjects outside you main study area. This means if you don't get your first preference, chose a different course with a lower ATAR and still take subjects you're interested in.

  • Apply to UTS as a non-current school leaver

You can wait and apply to UTS as a non-current school leaver, then you will be assessed on different criteria including:

    • any diplomas you may undertake at either a private college or TAFE.
    • any degree level study you have done at another university
    • work experience,and
    • motivation to study

Find out more about the options for getting into UTS as a mature age, or other non-school leavers.

UTS Guaranteed Entry Scheme

If you're a high performing student you might be eligible to receive a guaranteed offer into one of the many UTS courses included in the scheme.
