Financial support

Financial assistance

The UTS Financial Assistance service can assist with practical and financial aspects of life at university.

Students experiencing financial hardship affecting their studies can make an appointment to discuss financial assistance with the service.

Students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents and are on low incomes may be eligible for assistance which will improve their access to computing equipment, text books and accommodation.

Student loans

UTS offers student loans to students facing financial emergencies, such as medical or dental expenses, sudden loss of income, rental bonds and unexpected bills. Loans are generally for a maximum of $500 and interest free.

Student loans are not available for tuition fees or computers. Loans are one-off payments to be repaid over about six months. Documentation proving financial difficulties is required.

UTS: Financial assistance has more information about student loans.

Centrelink

Check the Centrelink website to see whether you’re eligible for government income support. If you are eligible for a student benefit you will receive an additional Startup Scholarship payment of over $1,000 per semester. See the Financial Assistance site for details.

You can register for Centrelink benefits on their website:
http://www.centrelink.gov.au/ (opens an external site)

Students who are receiving other Centrelink benefit payments, such as Carers, Single Parenting or the Disability Support Pension can apply for a UTS Diversity Access Scholarship, which are valued at $500 to $2000 per semester. The eligibility criteria, guidelines and online application form are on the University Admissions Centre (UAC) website (opens an external site).

For further information, contact Financial Assistance for an appointment. The UTS scholarships website provides details on all scholarships available.
