Options for studying overseas
International experience can open the door to better career opportunities as well as open your mind and broaden your way of thinking.
Choose from any of these options to take your degree to a global level:
Combine your degree with international studies
Available with most UTS undergraduate degrees, the Bachelor of Arts in International Studies allows students to combine the study of language with two semesters abroad at a partner university in your chosen country.
You'll complete four semesters of language and culture subjects, choosing from Spanish, French, Italian, German,Chinese and Japanese, alongside the subjects of your core undergraduate program. In the fourth year of your degree, you'll spend a full year living and studying at one of our select ‘in country’ partner universities.
Admission to international studies is competitive and cannot be combined with all UTS degrees.

Study a language
Increase your international and intercultural skills by studying a language offered by International Studies as an elective. You can choose from German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese or Italian.

Overseas practicum
Students can also take part in overseas practicums, offered in a number of courses. For example, Bachelor of Education in Primary Education students can elect to go abroad for two weeks in their second or third year to teach. In the past they have visited Samoa, Thailand and China. Students can also take the DAB-run subject ‘Construction in Developing Communities’, where they get the opportunity to experience the process of the design and construction of residential or small scale developments in developing communities both within Australia and abroad.
Global exchange
If you want to combine travel with your degree, exchange is another option. Students study one or two semesters overseas as part of our global exchange program and can choose to study at one of UTS’s partner universities spanning 20 countries across Europe, South America, North America, Asia and the Pacific. You’ll be pleased to know that while on exchange you’ll remain enrolled at UTS, so the study you do overseas will count towards your degree in Australia. This means it doesn’t take you any longer to complete your studies. And for those who don’t speak another language, don’t worry because many of UTS’s partner universities teach in the host language and in English. Also, you can choose from one of the many universities available in English-speaking countries.
