Choosing what to do at uni

You'll probably have some idea already of what you're good at and what you enjoy.

Years 9 to 12 is the time to think about what you'd like to do after school. Talk to lots of different people – especially people in careers you think you might like to enter.

The subjects you like and are good at in the HSC will also be the things you could focus on for uni and your future career. Choosing something you enjoy also usually means you'll find it easier to do well in it – when studying and when working.

Look at job lists and the Job Guide to get an idea of what types of work match the things you like and are good at. Do the jobs you're interested in need a degree?

Look at the UAC Guide, or look online, to get an idea of available courses at different universities that match the jobs you've identified – and think about doing a combined degree to give yourself more options.

Remember, you only need to choose what to do next. It's likely that your career path and the kind of jobs available to you will change in the future in ways you can't predict now, so you won't be ‘stuck' forever with what you choose.

Still wondering about you options, get facts from people who know. See suggestions on who can help you decide.
