What you can study at uni

Your first qualification at uni is called a bachelor's degree or undergraduate degree, and it usually takes three to five years to complete.

Areas of study

Different universities offer different fields of study (subject areas) and degrees (courses or programs), and degrees with the same name will be taught differently in each university.

UTS course areas

UTS offer courses in 10 different course areas:

  • Business
  • Communication
  • Design, Architecture and Building
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • International Studies
  • Law
  • Nursing, Midwifery and Health
  • Science

Types of courses

You might choose to enrol in just:

  • one degree,
    e.g. a Bachelor of Engineering, or,
  • a combined degree,
    e.g. a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and in International Studies,
    or a Bachelor of Business Bachelor of Laws.

A combined degree will take longer to complete, but it will give you a broader range of skills and more career options.

If you're not sure, it is possible to change degrees after you've started.
